Description

This is an excavated 7mm cartridge from Virginia. The headstamp indicates it was made by the German company, Braun & Bloem who started making cartridge sometime in the 1860s. I have multiple examples of 7mm pinfire cartridges across battlefields but I can’t imagine that there were any officially issued examples of this gun. It is possible they were bought along from home as a side arm. For this particular cartridge it is also possible, and maybe more likely, that it was dropped sometime after the American Civil War.

This recently listed collection of excavated cartridges came from a digger who primarily dug in Virginia. He did not record exact cities or locations of where he dug his cartridges.
