Excavated American-made 12mm pinfire cartridge from American Civil War site in Virginia

This is an excavated 12mm pinfire cartridge made by C.D. Leet exclusively for the Union Army. There were a few American manufacturers that made pinfire cartridges during the American Civil War as well as many companies who had their cartridges imported from Europe and this is an excellent example of one of the American-made variations.

This recently listed collection of excavated cartridges came from a digger who primarily dug in Virginia. He did not record exact cities or locations of where he dug his cartridges.
